This is the second book in the House of Night series.

"Zoey has managed to settle in at the House of Night and come to terms with the vast powers the Goddess Nyx has given her. Just as she finally feels she belongs, the unthinkable happens: human teenagers are being killed, and all evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves."

While this still is a somewhat enjoyable read, this book picks up where it left off. Zoey after struggling to get to the top is now trying to find her place. Just like the first book, there are many references to every teenage problem. Only this time, the girls in the book casually throw around and call each other 'sluts', etc all the time. It's every other word in the book. Seriously! While Zoey's character maintained to be a good role model in the first book, in this one she is not only confused with one boy, but three different guys! I'm not saying it's not okay to be confused, but when you go around kissing one guy after another....yeah thats not right, plus it just get repetitive and boring. Pick a guy already...sheesh!

Betrayed was really exciting. It had plot twist after plot twist. I never thought the person who betrayed Zoey was that person. Nevertheless, I find that the House of Night series, has been, how can I say this, has subliminal messages in them. Like when a parents try to sneak a sex talk in with their children. In these books, there are all kinds of references on why not to drink, not to smoke, etc. Yet they let the girls in the books walk around like its okay to call each other degrading names.

Also too much references from Marked. It's like the authors are trying to catch you up if you did not pick up book #1. It had a lot of information I felt was not needed.

Overall this book was fast-paced. I read it in less then a day. Again I do not recommend for young readers. It still does carry a lot of sex, drugs, and foul language.

I give it 3 BITES!

Happy Reading!
