"Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: Jem, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa.

As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all."

Okay first off, what a great way to start a prequel! This book was just totally amazing from the very beginning to the very end, and I loved how Ms. Clare through the reader in without any warning into her sea of never-ending literature adventure.

This books starts off immediately with Shadowhunters. Even in the past the Shadowhunters totally kicked  butt! What I enjoyed even more were characters we saw in the Mortal Instruments of course, young and just getting started on their adventure. I can't wait to see how Ms Clare connects it all in the end.

Even though this book was set in the past, the writing and the speaking was perfect. I loved reading about all the characters and well, just getting to know Will, Jem, and Tessa. Also, as far as I am concerned, I don't think there is anything going on between Jem and Tessa. I have heard a lot of Team Jem/Team Will or whatnot, but seriously,..... I think Will is just misunderstood. I think that there is alot to him and alot we just have not seen yet and when Ms. Clare reveals it all, I think it will blow up in all of our faces!

So if you have not read this series, you should do so.....like now! If you have not read the series at all, reading this book first will not matter. But I  do think you should read the The Mortal Instruments first due to the fact that there are some characters in this book that may shed some light on why the end up the way they did in The Mortal Instruments. This book is a must read for the year 2010!!

I give it 5 BITES!

Happy Reading!

  5. I completely agree! I don't see anything going on with Jem and Tessa. They just seem like good friends. Will has already captured her heart, even after he breaks it!

I'm so glad you love this book as much as I did!
