"Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything— including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?"

This book calls for breaking all the rules. Saved a human she wasn't suppose too? Check. Fell in love with him even though she was betrothed to another guy? Check. Told lies. Check. The guy she fell for was someone important. Double Check.

Calla has know her future her whole life. She knew the role she had to play. What she didn't know, was how one boy she made a snap decision in would play a significant role in not only her life, but her heart. Now she has to decide. Not only her life, but for those she loves.

What I liked most about this book was the plot. The plot is well written and well described. I love how Mr. Cremer was able to capture everything in detail. I like knowing Calla's mind and her emotions.

Now for the boys. Shay. I like him because he allowed Calla to be who she wanted to be. No rules, no pack. Just herself. Shay was easy going guy who just wanted to have fun. To be a teenager. Ren. I liked Ren because he was an Alpha male. He knew what he wanted and went for it. I even enjoyed his bad boy side in making Calla feel things she never did before. He made her depend on him so she didn't have to do everything. I like that. Calla had so much on her shoulders, she shouldn't have to do everything.

As far as this book, I really enjoyed it. Ms. Cremer debut novel was absolutely heart-stopping. Once I started, I could not put it down. The Nightshades and Banes captured me in their world, trapping me in one good reading adventure.

I give it 5 BITES!

Happy Reading!

  1. I've been reading a ton of reviews for this book lately. Every one makes me want to read it that much more, your review included. The way you described it makes it sound a little like Blood and Chocolate (which is a good thing, I think). I like the sound of Ren.

  2. I really enjoyed this one as well even though I found the beginning a little confusing. I thought she did a great job with the love triangle situation, it wasn't overly angst-y, but there was plenty of yummy tension:) Great review Savy, I can't wait for book 2!

  3. Oh, I loved this book! SO glad you did, as well. I really loved both Shay and Ren - for whatever reason, I really loved Ren - he showed a lot of vulnerability when it came to his feelings for Calla, and I loved how he just wanted to make sure she was okay. I loved it when he said outloud that she deserved better than the situation she was put into - actually, I think they both said that to her! Oh well, I'm rambling now, but I can't wait for Wolfsbane!

  6. I finished this book the other day. At first I thought the book was good-but the next day I woke up and was like "This is a great book"...I like Ren better than Shay (I feel like I should be team Shay but there is just something about him that I don't like)...I'm glad you loved it :)
