Review: Prom and Prejudice

Title: Prom and Prejudice
Series: No
Genre: Young Adult- Contemporary
Author: Elizabeth Eluberg
Publisher: Point
Release Date: January 1, 2011
Book: Bought
"After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious Longbourn Academy become obsessed with the prom. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on a scholarship, isn’t interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be — especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.
Lizzie is happy about her friend’s burgeoning romance but less than impressed by Charles’s friend, Will Darcy, who’s snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn’t seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it’s because her family doesn’t have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk — so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?
Will Lizzie’s pride and Will’s prejudice keep them apart? Or are they a prom couple in the making? Whatever the result, Elizabeth Eulberg, author of The Lonely Hearts Club, has concocted a very funny, completely stylish delight for any season — prom or otherwise."
You know, as much as I love re-tales of classic books, this book didn't seem to grab me as much as I wanted it too. I still enjoyed reading it but I had high expectations for it especially since I love Jane Eyre.

One thing I enjoyed about this book are the strong characters. The main character, Lizzie is off the charts. She is an amazing girl who grew a back bone when getting harassed as the new scholarship girl. She is not the same and lets everyone know it. She is strong and level- headed, and finally put her foot down in being treated badly. Will Darcy is a Class A jerk! From the very beginning he made me fume! I mean who does he think he is??? He treated the girls badly and just made me want to slap him. But at last, he did mange to win me back when he finally started to come around and be himself.

The plot line of this book is my gripe. While the characters were amazing, the plot is slow and not very grabbing. I had a hard time staying with the book. And only cause of the characters did I continue to read. I did however, love the idea of prom and what it meant in society. Over all, it's a good book with amazing characters.

I give it 3 BITES!
Happy Reading!

  1. I adored this book, but I see what you're saying. I can see how the plot is a bit slow. I had that problem with her first book. I loved it b/c of all the cute P&p references.

  2. Did you read Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik? It's also based on P&P and a very quick read. You should check it out if you haven't, I really liked it!

  3. Eh. It's kind of hard for me to enjoy a book when the plot is slow. Thanks for the review, Savy :)

  4. I thought this one was really cute, but I definitely wanted to slap Will a time or two:) He won me over at the end though just like you!

  5. I've been considering snagging a copy of this... I have a hard time with mega-jerk boys though! Tough call.

  6. Hm... not sure this one is for me. I like it when the jerk comes around, but sometimes I don't think they change enough within the small amount of time within a book. Guess I'm on the fence with this one.

  7. I don't think this one is for me because I really disliked The Lonely Hearts Club, but I liked your honest take on it! Great review :)
