Title: Crank
Series: Crank # 1
Genre: Young Adult-Contemporary
Author: Ellen Hopkins
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: October 5, 2004
Book: Gifted from friend

"Kristina Georgia Snow is the perfect daughter: gifted high school junior, quiet, never any trouble. But on a trip to visit her absentee father, Kristina disappears and Bree takes her place. Bree is the exact opposite of Kristina -- she's fearless.
Through a boy, Bree meets the monster: crank. And what begins as a wild, ecstatic ride turns into a struggle through hell for her mind, her soul -- her life."

If you really want to know how one falls into drugs and is paralyzed there, read this book. Right from the start, I was amazed. You hear these stories all the time. At least I do. Some of my family members are really into drugs and have been in and out of jail/rehab. But I never really took a step back and see what Ms. Hopkins has captured. Ms. Hopkins captured everything and more about drug use. How it is so simple, to fall into it and drown.

One thing I enjoyed about this book is how Ms. Hopkins could capture a simple situation, one that you never would of thought that it could go badly. Kristina's change in her life and one bad decision left her fighting for her life. I love how easily the reader can see things through Kristina's eyes. The reader, can see the fall of Kristina, little by little. She is not taken fully, but so slowly that you can see her soul dying one bit at a time. At times, I had to put the book down, just to gather my strength again to continue reading. My heart not only wept, but ached at what Kristina is going through.

Ms. Hopkins writing is so passionately written, that it is impossible not to understand. Ms. Hopkins really took a situation that I myself could never understand (never did drugs) and open my eyes to something new. For now, I can't say I know what the person is going through, but through Ms. Hopkins I now have a better understanding.

If you know people who are using drugs, addicted to drugs, etc, read this book. It will illuminate your eyes to a whole new world. It will feel feelings your never felt, but most of all, it will give a chance to know what they are going through.

I give it  5 BITES!

Happy Reading!
