Blog Tour: Legend Post & Giveaway!!

Hello everyone! I am honored to be a part of the Legend Blog Tour!
Today, I have Ms. Marie Lu, the talented author of Legend!

"What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills."

Dealmakers
----------

For the most part, I'm not a terribly picky person when it comes to entertainment. Sure, there are some shows/books/whatever I'm just not that into (i.e. romantic comedies, baseball, logging), but I'll try almost anything once. However, there are CERTAIN things in entertainment-in-general that are my dealmakers. In other words, if I hear that a book/movie/etc has one of these in it, I'm almost GUARANTEED to read/watch/rock it.

1) The end is here--or, the end hath already come and gone.

Also known as post-apocalypse, dystopias, or zombies. Particularly zombies. If any of those 3 words (or all) appear in an advertisement, I will detour straight to it while happily knocking down any old ladies in my path. Although I don't end up liking everything I read/watch in those genres, the ratio of win:fail is significantly higher in these genres than the ratio of win:fail for things in general.

2) Conspiracy theories, or jiggly-camera mysteries.

Cloverfield. Paranormal Activity. Quarantine. Who killed JFK. Bigfoot. Area 51. Some of these are ridiculous, true, but I don't care. Let me live in my bubble!!

3) Fighter jets.

I think I've watched at least 50% of the videos on YouTube that feature fighter jets in any capacity, especially ones with the F-22, F-15 (my fav), F-35, any jet with thrust vectoring or vertical take-off capabilities, and the Sukhoi-47. I read Fighter Pilot, the memoir of famous ace Robin Olds. Two of my favorite shows are Great Planes and Dogfights. *salivates* Can you tell I was a Top Gun fangirl when I was little? Tom Cruise, even if you might be a little on the crazy side, I forgive you of everything and anything because you are Maverick.

4) Johnny Depp and/or Ben Barnes.

Since we're on the topic of celebrities.

5) Schools that teach magic.

Yep, Harry Potter. And, more recently, The Name of the Wind. In fact, I think this is the number one reason why I enjoyed The Name of the Wind so much.

6) Child prodigies.

Okay, this is the OTHER reason I enjoyed The Name of the Wind so much. (Kvothe is totally a badass child prodigy.) This is also a relatively new one for me to realize, but I think I always unconsciously gravitated toward stories about child prodigies. I will read any novel or non-fiction biography about Mozart (and I don't read a lot of biographies), or his sister Nannerl, regardless of its quality. And I looooooooooove Ender's Shadow and Ender's Game. Ender and Bean, you boys are my eternal heroes.

Now all I need to find is a post-apocalyptic story about a child prodigy fighter pilot attending a magic flight school who uncovers a conspiracy theory while shooting home webcam footage of his/her antics in the sky. With a character somewhere in it that Johnny Depp or Ben Barnes (or both) can play. Ooooh.

Thanks soo much for being here today Marie Lu!
About the author:

"Before becoming a full-time writer, Marie Lu was the art director at a video game company. She also owns the children’s brand Fuzz Academy. She was first inspired to write Legend while watching Les Miserables one afternoon, and wondered how the relationship between a famous criminal vs. a prodigious detective might translate into a more modern story. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 2006 and lives in Los Angeles, California.

  2. Um. A huge and resounding YES to both Johnny Depp and Ben Barnes! Sign me up for watching anything that has either of them in it, preferably together:) Also, I adore conspiracy theories! I've gotten a bit addicted to that show about sasquatch where the people are traveling all over Canada and Alaska because there have been "sightings" and they swear there's "evidence". For the sake of those dedicated believers, I really hope bigfoot is real so they can find him:) Such a fun guest post!

  5. Oh I'm not a fan of the jiggly camera vids (well, if they are too jiggly, I mean) because they give me headaches, but barring that... I could totally watch all of those. :)

Oh and if you find that Johnny Depp/ Ben Barnes movie... do let me know! :D
