Blog Tour: The Selection Interview with Kiera Cass

"For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined."

Today I have a interview with the lovely Ms. Kiera Cass!

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
Scheduled. Day dreaming. Time. I kid you not, for a long time I would intentionally set aside time to let my mind wander. I think about dreams I’ve had, books and movies I like, and the “what ifs” of the world, and I let them grow. I also listen to lots of music, which helps. The Siren, which I self-published in 2009, was born out of a dream, and The Selection came from thinking about Esther and Cinderella. Good inspiration can come from anywhere.

How did you come up with the title for your book(s)? (I HEART the title)
I think The Selection just happened. When I started writing the book, that’s just what came out when I got to the line about what the competition was called. But I like it! In a way, it’s sort of mysterious to look at that girl in her beautiful dress and wonder what those words mean for her. Since the competition is the center of the story, it really just had to be the title.

Are your works based on someone you know or events in your life?
None of my stories are, but there are characters born out of people I know. Most of those are in The Siren. I have a lot of really interesting friends, so I pull from their craziness. I’ve also given loves and quirks of mine to characters, but only because they work for them.

Can you share a little of your current work with us? ( Maybe a teaser? Pretty please?)
Ok, just because you asked so nice, here’s a line from Book 2:
“I curled closer to May, comforted by her warmth.”

Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?
I hope to grow! I studied History in college, so I’m still learning how to make a beautiful book. My hope is that I’ll look back at The Selection in a few years and think “that could have been better”. Not because I want to drive myself crazy! But because I want to be writing with a lovely, poetic, and practiced hand.

What new books do you look forward to reading this summer?
I’ve been hearing great things about Tiger Lily by Jodi Lyn Anderson, so I’m hoping to get enough downtime between writing books and New Baby coming to squeeze it in.

That teaser was AMAZING! I'm so excited to see what happens next.

Thanks for answering my questions!
