Interview: K.C. Blake

Hello! Today I have an lovely interview with author K.C. Blake!

How much research goes into your writing?

That depends on what I’m working on.  Sometimes I research places if I want my book to happen somewhere that I haven’t been.  Once in a while I have to research an occupation that one of my characters has.  For Witch Hunt I don’t think I researched anything.  The most fun I’ve had while researching was on Vampires Rule, looking up all those poetic quotes for my bad guy.

Out of all of your books, which did you find the hardest to write?

Actually, I think it was Witch Hunt.  Because the game involves them losing their memories and having false memories, it became complicated.  I was afraid the reader would get confused.  Eventually I solved that problem by having the heroine be a teen reporter, a major snoop.  As she finds out about the game, so does the reader.  She leads the reader by the hand, shows them the clues, and finally solves the mystery.  Maybe some of the readers will even be able to solve it before she does.

 Is there an author or a person in your life that influences your writing?

I have a Beta Reader, and I couldn’t live without her at this point.  She reads the chapters again and again, probably as many times as I do, and she suggests changes.  In Crushed, she is the one who came up with the idea of Kristen having a signature lipstick.  In Witch Hunt, she gave me the idea of having Starr use her sunglasses like a designer hair-band.

Can you tell us a little about what you are working on next?

I’m working on a lot of things.  After Witch Hunt is on Amazon (4/15/12), I am going to start rewriting Shifters Rule.  That is the third and perhaps final book in the Rule Series.  First I need to read Vampires Rule and Werewolves Rule, take careful notes, and try not to mess up the third one.  In the meantime, I am outlining the first of my hunter series, Bait.  It is about two girls joining a school for hunters.  During orientation they are told that they are only useful as ‘monster bait.’  That’s where the name comes into play.

What books do you look forward to reading this Spring?

Right now I am re-reading Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instrument Series.  I’m currently in the middle of City of Bones.  Why am I reading them again?  Because I bought City of Fallen Angels, and I want to remind myself what was going on in the last books before reading the new one.
