Hello my lovelies! Today I have a interview with the awesome Rae Carson!!!
"In the sequel to the acclaimed The Girl of Fire and Thorns, a seventeen-year-old princess turned war queen faces sorcery, adventure, untold power, and romance as she fulfills her epic destiny.
Elisa is the hero of her country. She led her people to victory against a terrifying enemy, and now she is their queen. But she is only seventeen years old. Her rivals may have simply retreated, choosing stealth over battle. And no one within her court trusts her-except Hector, the commander of the royal guard, and her companions. As the country begins to crumble beneath her and her enemies emerge from the shadows, Elisa will take another journey. With a one-eyed warrior, a loyal friend, an enemy defector, and the man she is falling in love with, Elisa crosses the ocean in search of the perilous, uncharted, and mythical source of the Godstone's power. That is not all she finds. A breathtaking, romantic, and dangerous second volume in the Fire and Thorns trilogy."
Why did you write for teens?
People in their teens and early twenties are a lot smarter and
more open minded than older adults. Writing for a younger audience allows me to
do more complicated and risky stuff.
How much research goes into your book?
It depends on the book, but usually? A LOT. In fact, one of my
favorite tips for aspiring writers is to find a subject that interests them
(Space travel? Ninjas? Black market hosiery?) and indulge it SHAMELESSLY until
they know every single thing about it.
Is there anything you like to change in your book?
There are lots of things! I grow as a writer with every project,
and there are certain things about my books that now make me wince. Hopefully,
I'll have a long career of looking back at previous work and realizing I'm
capable of doing better.
Now that the Fire and Thorns trilogy is almost
complete, what do you plan to write next? (Paranormal, Contemporary, etc)
I'm writing a new trilogy for Greenwillow! This one is also epic
fantasy, but it takes place in one of the most epic times in our own history.
It's about a teenaged girl living in 1849 whose magical secret prompts a
tumultuous rush west in search of gold. It's like Little House on the
Prairie on steroids.
What books do you look forward to reading this fall?
I am seriously geeked out about ASHEN WINTER, the sequel to Mike
Mullin's amazing ASHFALL. I'm also excited about THE DIVINERS by Libba Bray.
Don't tell Libba, but my cat peed on her ARC. It's a tribute to how excited I
am that I'm going to read it anyway.

ReplyDeleteAnd I just died. I think Libba should be beyond flattered that Rae is going to brave the stench of cat pee for a the not-insignificant 500 pages that is The Diviners. That's dedication:) I so enjoy this series, and after just finishing Crown of Embers I CANNOT WAIT for book 3. Thanks for the interview Rae and Savy!
I'm with Jenny... that cracked me up! ROFL!!
ReplyDeleteI need the first and this book... NEEDS I tells ya! :D
