Review: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

Title: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner
Series: Twilight-Novella
Genre: Young Adult- Paranormal
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Publisher: Little Brown
Release Date: June 5, 2010
Book: Bought

This is a short story based on Bree Tanner, the newborn Victoria created in Eclipse.

"Bree Tanner can barely remember life before she had uncannily powerful senses, superhuman reflexes and unstoppable physical strength. Life before she had a relentless thirst for blood... life before she became a vampire.

All Bree knows is that living with her fellow newborns has few certainties and even fewer rules: watch your back, don't draw attention to yourself and, above all, make it home by sunrise or die. What she doesn't know: her time as an immortal is quickly running out.

Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they know only as "her". As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagined, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trust. But when everything you know about vampires is based on a lie, how do you find the truth?"

I was super excited to have this book in my hands, but unfortunately it was not all that I expected. The book was set in Bree Tanner's point of view. We learned that she's a new born vampire, created to kill Bella. The other newborns around her don't know much either, but Bree is quickly catching on.

It becomes obvious that Bree immediately has a connection with Deigo. The friendship they had grew into something more. I smiled at the prospect of Deigo being Bree's mate. I wished that could've been, but sadly no.

I was glad to hear her side of the story when she met the Cullen's. She wanted to live, but she knew she wouldn't. In a way she kind of reminded me of Bella. At the end, she asked Edward to be nice to Freaky Fred if he or his family ever ran into him.

I guess I expected a little more insight. I wanted more info on Bree herself. This book was a small, fast, easy read. No curse words or sexual references. Another great part about this book was the donation given when buying this book. I was happy to help.

I give it 3 BITES!

Happy Reading!

  1. Thanks for reviewing this book! I was considering reading it. Did you know it's available to read online FOR FREE until July 5th? Woot woot! And the best part is it's legit. It's Stephenie Meyer's gift to her fans.
