Review: If You Find Me

Title: If You Find Me
Series: None
Genre: Young Adult-Mystery
Author: Emily Murdoch
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: March 26, 2013
Book: Netgalley

A broken-down camper hidden deep in a national forest is the only home fifteen year-old Carey can remember. The trees keep guard over her threadbare existence, with the one bright spot being Carey’s younger sister, Jenessa, who depends on Carey for her very survival. All they have is each other, as their mentally ill mother comes and goes with greater frequency. Until that one fateful day their mother disappears for good, and two strangers arrive. Suddenly, the girls are taken from the woods and thrust into a bright and perplexing new world of high school, clothes and boys. Now, Carey must face the truth of why her mother abducted her ten years ago, while haunted by a past that won’t let her go… a dark past that hides many a secret, including the reason Jenessa hasn’t spoken a word in over a year. Carey knows she must keep her sister close, and her secrets even closer, or risk watching her new life come crashing down.

I haven't had the chance to read a great mystery and when I saw I had this book to read I was so excited. The beginning kind of reminded me of the movie that just came out "Mama" but without the fear and scary parts. But the part with the two girls in the woods eating beans...oh my goodness.

I think what the two girls went through is something really hard both mentally and emotionally. The idea of having the person you thought that would take care of you just pack up and leave and have random people come pick you up. I don't know what I would think but I would have mixed emotions. Or my emotions would be off the charts. The idea of changing your whole lifestyle to something else can be something some people could never adapt to.

The romance in this book was what I would call adorable but a little cheesy. I kind of was not expecting what the two found out about each other and how they knew each other. Kind of cute...It was something that reminded me from the show Once Upon A Time when Charming tells Snow how he would always find her. But yeah a romance that one could find a connection with and only hope for the best.

A character I think that was also important in this story was the stepsister. She kind of felt left out when the two sisters came into her life. She became the third wheel. And her causing problems was a way for her to get noticed. I think the conversation between her and the other sister was a changing point in the story for them and is something that I really enjoyed.

Emily Murdoch creates a mystery that is compelling to the reader and one that some could call heart-wrenching. I praise her work and I can not wait to see what the author comes out with next.

I give it 4 bites!
