I'm loving the way sequels are getting better and better. For me, there is just much more added depth to the story.
The virus is spreading faster and wider than what originally thought. Diving right back into the plot, Kaelyn is running out of time. She is trying to survive as well as find a cure. The adventure of taking a possible cure to trustable scientist is great. She is faced with people who want to kill her, people who want to steal it, and people who want to help. Which is hard to know giving what is going in her present time. Not to mention, the virus is sneaking up on her loved one fast!
Now, the love interest certainly had aspects I did not think would happen. Thankfully, there is not "love triangle" but really just "the one who got away." I like that Kaelyn emotions where not swept away by this hasty decisions but her loyalty never wavered. She knew who she loved and she made it clear.
The ending of the book gets so intense that it actually made my hands hurt (Yes, I was gripping the book that tight). Once I read the few last lines I felt immensely sad and angry. It ended on a questionable note that makes me want more.
The Lives We Lost is brilliant told story. With amazing footsteps to follow end, I can assure you that you will not get bored. Instead, your mind will be filled with action, love and the fighting to survive.

Sequels do seem to be upping the ante this year. :) That's great that the love story is a bit unexpected. We need more of those! Glad you loved this one. :)
ReplyDeleteI had completely forgotten about this series Savy! I remember reading the first book and it was okay for me, but I was definitely intrigued by the ending and the return of a certain someone. Now I really want to see how that plays out in this book, but I think I should probably wait until book 3 is out given the way you describe this ending. I don't want to be sad and angry with no remedy in sight for another year!

ReplyDeleteOh I donno.... that ending. I'm an ending girl and I needs my HEA. Not sounding terribly HEA. Might have to think on this one, but it still does sound good.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that this is a good sequel. I have had great luck with reading sequels this year too! I haven't read the first book of this series, but I have it. I am too much of a germaphobe and paranoid this time of year to read books about viruses lol!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm thinking I might have got this one but didn't know it was a sequel. Or maybe I just saw it and left it since I saw it was a sequel. I know that I saw it at ALA though. It sounds really interesting and I love a story that's gripping. And I don't mind a slight love triangle (ish) situation if it's clear who she wants. It's just when they are back and forth and can't decide that drives me nuts. I'm gonna look up the first book. :)
