Review: Element Keepers

Title: Element Keepers
Series: No
 Genre: Young Adult- Supernatural
Author: E.P. Marcellin
Publisher: Tate Publishing
Release Date: November 9, 2010

"Rhet guts fish for a living, content in obscurity until the day he is plucked from the wharves by nine exotic strangers and carted across the continent to a life-sentence of imprisonment. Though he has done nothing (as far as he knows) to warrant such capture, his captors are certain he will one day destroy the world if they do not prevent him. Though it is true that Rhet discovers great powers, he is neither villain nor hero. He is unique in a world where some can pull threads of wind from the air and weave it to do their bidding; he can bring wind into being where there is none. But a quest for domination begins to unravel the very fabric of the world, destroying the balance that must be maintained. It only took one to start the spiral toward chaos, but one alone cannot save the world, no matter how great his power. A new chapter in the story of the human race has begun. A slave will come to rule, a dockworker will meet his fate, and an unlikely group of companions will find themselves thrust to the forefront of the battle for life's existence. And man's future may be only Whispers in the Wind."

I really hate it when I can't get into a book. For me, I love to read and I can pretty much get into any story. But this book I just could not. I struggled through out the first 50 pages. I kept pushing hoping I would get into it but I can't.
My main problem with this book is the story line. It was not doing it for me. While I loved the characters and the world that is created around them, the story line was flat. There was no excitement, or umph, in at least for me. I really wanted to get into this book, but I couldn't.

This is a good fantasy novel. If you like fantasy novels check this one. If may just be for you, but for me it was not.

I give it 2 BITES!

Happy Reading!

"What if you were a teenager and discovered you had the ability to read minds? What would you do
with that power? Those are two questions Christine Carpenter would like answered as she begins her
sophomore year at Thomas Jefferson High School. She soon discovers she is not the only student
Everett. They become friends, but their relationship is strained as they learn to cope with their powers
while trying to keep them a secret from the world.

Christine’s questions are answered when a monster, lurking in the depths of her school, threatens to
murder the student population. When it becomes apparent the monster is someone she knows, she
must decide whether to try and save him, or, if he must be destroyed, what might the consequences
be?"

I'll be the first to say that the cover does not grab me at all. I do my best not to judge a book by the cover and read the book. Now, with that being said, this is a really good book. I mean, really good. I was blown away of how much action was in it. The characters and plot were good. They all have a great depth to them that made you feel the characters and draw you even more in the book.

The plot is what grab me. The plot had lots of action, drama and a great build up to a good fight in the end. I felt strong and happy when reading this book. It was super funny cause when I was reading this book, I was dodging and moving around when the fight rolled around. My husband looked at me weird. LOL! Mr. Mascia did a great job with the storyline and keeping the reader entertain. Not once did I get bored or tired of the plot. If anything the plot kept you on your toes.

By now, you should know that I love secrets. I LOVE them. To me, revealing secrets is like the icing on the cake. I like gasping and feeling surprised myself. I loved reading that. I enjoyed learning the secrets and especially knowing what it can do to you if you let it take over. I like the lesson learn in the end. It has a nice touch with learning and controlling your powers.

High School Heroes is great book with lots of action in it. Mr. Mascia pulls the reader in, drowning them in his story. Not only did the reader see the characters grow, but the reader see the progress of friendships and new beginnings. If you like X-men, but for teens, read this book. I can guarantee that while the cover will not blow you away, the story will.

I give it 4 BITES!
