Review: Fangs For Freaks

Title: Fangs For Freaks
Series: Half-Blood Vampires # 2
Genre: Young Adult-Paranormal
Author: Serena Robar
Publisher:  Berkly (Peguin)
Release Date: May 26, 2010
Book: Bought

"Running a sorority house for half-blood vampires is harder work than I thought. Being half-bloods is practically the only thing we have in common. We may not all get along but we do need to stick together. Leaked information on our whereabouts has brought us under attack. Either someone on the vampire council wants us dead or there-s a new threat in town. Could there be a spy among us, watching us day and night, just waiting to strike?"

Ok, this book was not as exciting as the first, but nonetheless it was a good read. Colby is now in charge of the new Psi Phi Sorority house that houses half-bloods. She meets and greets all the new girls when all of the suddend their is murder in the house. Someone on the inside is a spy.

The book was well written and the plot was good. There was a lot od drama between Colby and Thomas. There was also a lot of insight on their relationship. Through out the whole book Colby and Thomas did nothing but fight. But to be frank, I think it was all Colby's fault not Thomas. But of course she blamed it all on Thomas. Colby in this book was just to fickle. She changed her mind constantly, her emotions were cold and then hot. She really needed to get a hold of herself. But I can see she could be stressed out due to the fact that now she is the most hated and unwanted thing in the vampire world.

I was also angry at Colby because she seemed to want to do everything on her own. While I was glad that she was independent, she did have help. But noooo, she wanted to do it all on her won just causing more problems. That was really starting to annoy me. There was a sexual scene in the book, nothing to graphic, just enough to know what is going on.

I give it 3 BITES!

Review: Braced to Bite

Title: Braced to Bite
Series: Half-Blood Vampires # 1
Genre: Young Adult-Paranormal
Author: Serena Robar
Publisher: Pequin Group
Release Date: June 1, 2010
Book: Bought

"Colby Blanchard is the popular cheerleader with the grades, the hunky boyfriend, and the homecoming crown in the bag. Then things go bad-like turning-into-a-vampire bad. And complicating things is the fact that her orthodontist father has removed her canine teeth to give her a perfect smile, so she can't even do the vampire thing properly. Luckily, he's fitting her with some new headgear so she can feed. (So now she's not just a vampire but a dork.) This lighthearted debut will have Buffy fans of all ages laughing and shuddering as Colby battles the Vampire Council, resists her attraction to a fellow vamp, and hunts down the rogue bloodsucker who got her in this mess in the first place-all while trying to snag a date for homecoming."

There is something about cheerleaders crossing over to the dark side that just gets me. This book was exciting! I loved reading about Colby and loved her attitude. She acted just as I thought she would and I enjoyed every minute of it.

The one thing about this book was that is was a fun, easy, quick, read. The plot and drama was good and nothing was overrated. Her maker I was definitely interested in. He was very intriguing. Also, I like how Colby was feeling attracted to the vamp counsel dude. Totaly ironic that she fall for a guy who is way out of her league.

Now on the other hand, I felt this book needed more. Although it was fun and easy, I would like to read more into the story and learn more abou the vampires. I did however buy the second book, and will read that one soon to see what more is in store.

If you like an over achiever cheerleader going vamp with all the drama read this. Its was fun and witty read and will satisfy your vamp side.

I give it 4 BITES!

Guest Blog with Lauren Hammond And Giveaway!!!

Hello Everyone!
Today we have a guest post :)
Author Lauren Hammond is here with us today to discuss her new novel Love Sucks. Thank you Lauren for being here today.

For Love is immortality. ~ Emily Dickinson
The definition of immortality is endless life or existence. What would you do if you could live forever? What would you do differently knowing, that every day you walked on this earth wouldn’t be your last? Cara Jones never asked for immortality. She never asked to be a vampire. Immortality can give you a lot of one thing, time. So after living hundreds of years, Cara assumes if she’d been given a choice, she would have picked immortality over death itself. But what would you do?
Love Sucks began as a mental image. I was driving down the road, blaring my music, when suddenly, Cara punched through my brain and also punched through the lid of her coffin. I remember turning down the music, staying focused on the image, and rushing home to begin bringing Cara’s story to life.
The journey to get Love Sucks published wasn’t an easy one. I had a few yes’s and a million no’s. The word no, was something I was getting used to but, I never let it stop me.

Writing had been a great part of my life since I was a young child. I knew I was destined to do it so, I would stop at nothing to get myself there.

Love Sucks will take you on the ride of a lifetime, literally. The book begins in the early 1700’s when Cara is turned into a creature of the night and ends in the year 2010 when she awakens from a two hundred and eighty year slumber. The world is so new to Cara. When she left it there was no electricity, no running, water, no cars, nothing like it is today. So she once again finds herself adjusting to a new way of life.
I wanted to create a strong character that not only I could relate to but, my readers could relate to as well. I strongly believe that great, developed characters equal great novels. And if you are looking for a character to relate to, look no further than Cara Jones.

Love Sucks has been getting some pretty positive attention, therefore a sequel is in order A Sucker For Love will be released in the summer of 2011. Now I only have one thing left to say, are you ready to be sucked in???

It’s been centuries since Isabeau St. Croix barely survived the French Revolution. Now she’s made her way back to the living and she must face the ultimate test by confronting the evil British lord who left her for dead the day she turned into a vampire. That’s if she can control her affection for Logan Drake, a vampire whose bite is as sweet as the revenge she seeks.

The clans are gathering for Helena’s royal coronation as the next vampire queen, and new alliances are beginning to form now that the old rifts of Lady Natasha’s reign have started to heal. But with a new common enemy, Leander Montmarte—a vicious leader who hopes to force Solange to marry him and usurp the power of the throne for himself—the clans must stand together to preserve the peace he threatens to destroy.

This second adventure in the Drake Chronicles—told from both Logan’s and Isabeau’s perspectives—has all the same butt-kicking action, heart-pounding romances and snarky humor that readers loved in Hearts at Stake, as well as exciting new revelations about the vampire dynasties to keep readers coming back for more."

Just like the first novel, The Drake brothers never let you down. Logan meets and is immediately intrigued by Isabeau. The Drake family and the Hounds end up working together to help stop a crazy vampire by the name of Montmarte. He will stop at nothing till he has the crown and Solange Drake.

This book was great. The romance between Logan and Isabeau, I felt lack a little. I was glad to see the working together and getting to know one another but I would have really like to see them get some downtime instead of fighting by side each other all the time. Logan was immediately protective of Isabeau vowing nothing or no one will hurt her. While Isabeau did finds this somewhat comforting she still felt the need to do things on her own.

I love the action in this book. The action was great. I love the sword fighting and the ambushes. There was always a surprise around the corner awaiting them. The humor in the books was great. I had a few good laughs while reading this.  I was also happy that she included other characters from the past book in as well. I like to know what happens to Nicholas when he lets Lucy out of the closet. LOL

Alyxandra did a great job writing this. This book was an easy read, had some curse words, and I love the fighting. I adored Isabeau strong fighting character. She truly was an survivor. Alyxandra delivered a great action pack, non-stop page turner. I can't wait to see what the next Drake bother has in store for us!

I give it 5 BITES!

Review: Hearts at Stake

Title: Hearts at Stake
Series: The Drake Chronicles # 1
Genre: Young Adult- Paranormal
Author: Alyxandra Harvey
Publisher: Walker
Release Date: May 23, 2010
Book: Bought

"The Drakes are rather different to your usual neighbours. They are vampires and some of the members of the family date back to the twelfth century. One of the children, Solange, is the only born female vampire known and, as such, she poses a direct threat to the vampire queen. Her best friend Lucy is human, and when Solange is kidnapped Lucy and Solange's brother, Nicholas, set out to save her. Lucy soon discovers that she would like to be more than just friends with Nicholas. But how does one go about dating a vampire? Meanwhile, Solange finds an unlikely ally in Kieran, a vampire slayer on the hunt for his father's killer. Also known as "Hearts At Stake.""

Solange is the only vampire girl in over nine hundred years. Vampires swarm the Drake estate looking to either court her, kill her or if you believe in the prophecy, kidnap her. Solange is tired of being stuck at her house, not being able to go out ever single moment without one of her annoying brothers tagging along.

She then meet Kieran. A handsome vampire hunter who is out to kill The Drake Family on the bounty.
Kieran is told that is was The Darke Family who killed his father. What he doesn't know is what he was told is a lie.

Lucy, best friend to Solange is human who has grown up around vampires her entire life. She is completely at ease with them. They take care of as if she was one of her own. When things get crazy with the bounty on The Drake Family, with Lucy's family out of town, she too is stuck at the house. Nicholas, one of the Drake brothers, is all of the sudden feeling different toward Lucy.

Lucy notices a change in Nicholas, more attentive towards, protecting her....Lucy also see Nicholas in a different shade of light. She is just not sure what to make of it.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I love that there was two different love stories going on. It was like double the fun, double the pleasure. Watching the love between the fours characters was a great touch. Nicholas and Lucy had great chemistry. The bond between them was something irresistible. Even with Solange craziness of all the vampires coming to her, her falling for Kieran was something nice. Solange was so bent on not dating any of them and not wanting to become queen, that falling for the one who wants to kill you....why not???

But you know what really got me hooked on this book, was Lucy and Nicholas. Even though this book was written in  two different point of views, I like Lucy and Nicholas the best. There was more back round on them and chemistry. I love how Nicholas change his attitude with her. He was nice, then mean, then protective. I love to read books that mess with my emotions. And Nicholas did just that. On Solange and Kieran there was chemistry but enough to establish a relationship. I think their story at the end, was just beginning.
The action and humor in the book was another added bonus. The Drake family busted major kick-butt moves in fighting. The humor in the book had me laughing hard.

Alyxandra's Hearts at Stake is one of my favorite books and I can't believe it took me this long to read it. This book is written in romance style. Each Drake finding their loves. I like this. With 9 Drake brothers, there are plenty more novels to come.

I give it 5 BITES!

Review: Slayed

Title: Slayed
Series: No
Genre: Young Adult-Paranormal/Fantasy
Author: Amanda Marrone
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: October 5, 2010
Book: Sent by Publisher

"The family slays together, stays together.

Daphne Van Helsing hates being  a vampire slayer. All she wants is a normal life--friends, school, her own room,--but herv parents have devoted their lives to the cause, and Daphne's along for the ride.

Their lastest job is in Maine, where not only are they hunting a firece strain of vamps, but they're forced to work with The Harkers, a rival slayer family. Just her luck: Tyler Harker, totally crush-worthy, and he's her sworn enemy.

But just when things start looming up, something truly evil comes to town. Something more powerful--and more frightening--than anything Daphne's encountered before.

She thought she'd seen hell on earth. She ain't seen nothing' yet."

My gosh this book is something out of this world. Never have I heard of a vampire slaying family that totally kicks butt!

Daphne Van Helsing's life is anything but normal. Bound to serve the world as a vampire slayer, Daphne is tired of what she is doing. From the very moment she entered this world, Daphne has been trained and honed in to a hunter. She's never had the opportunity to live a normal 17 years old life. When her family comes to the town of Bristol to extinguish their vamp problem they run into The Harkers. They are forced to work together, ruining their every plans. But fate has its own plans.

Kiki Crusher is a uppity type of girl who just happens to witness Daphne's slaying of a vamp. In order to keep her mouth shut, Daphne's family agreed to show Kiki the ropes of a vampire slayer. At first Daphne was upset and didn't want to do it at all. But in the end, Kiki grew on Daphne becoming her first real friend.

Tyler Harker is the son of Nathan Harker, her rivals. Even since a falling out years back, her parents have told her that they are bad news and to stay away from them. They both were raised the same. She knows just how hard it is to live this life.Yet she can't seem to fight the pull she has toward him. And with her every waking step, he is always just around the corner.

Bristol poplutaion is quickly going down. People are dying and no one seems to know exactly what is going on. The vampire that they hunt are much stronger, and are even stronger during the day. Some say it is demons, other vampires. Will they learn to put the past behind and move forward?

I had a great time reading this book. Amanda Marrone did a wonderful job writing this. She was able to get into the mind of a deprived teenager expressing her feelings truly, making her character real. I loved reading about Daphne and was glad to see her character grow. She was able to make new friends and learn from the past. I was glad to see her parents saw the wrong of their ways, that Daphne was able to stand up for herself once and for all.

The love interest in the story was a great asset. Tyler and Daphne has such great chemistry going on. Plus, they were rivals. Who wouldn't want to fall in love with something that is forbidden to you? They understood each other the best and they were perfect together. Her new friend Kiki was a great addition. She definitely brought the laughter and humor in this book. Kiki smart-remarks and funny antics had me laughing hard. Kiki was there for Daphne in every way a friend should be.

While reading this you feel pulled into her world, experiencing everything with her characters. The plot, her writing was fabulous. It was a easy read and everything was describe with such great detail. If you love a good action packed family who slays vampires then this story is for you.

Amanda Marrone delivered a heart-stopping, action-packed, drama filled story, with a great romance.

I would recommend this book to older teens. There was cursing, drinking, etc in the book.

I give it 5 BITES!

Happy Reading!

When rejection comes back to bite you...

"Jordan's life sucks. Her boyfriend, Michael, dumped her, slept his way through half the student body, and then killed himself. But now, somehow, he appears at her window every night, begging her to let him in.

Jordan can't understand why he wants her, but she feels her resistance wearing down. After all, her life -- once a broken record of boring parties, meaningless hookups, and friends she couldn't relate to -- now consists of her drinking alone in her room as she waits for the sun to go down.

Michael needs to be invited in before he can enter. All Jordan has to do is say the words...."

My boyfriend's back and I am gonna get in trouble......If there is an way to get your boyfriend back why not a vampire? Jordan has an ex-boyfriend, Micheal, who is at her window asking her to come in. So far, Jordan has been able to resist him, but she can no longer. She thought he was dead, she went to his funeral. And now Micheal is at her window but he is not the same. He is a VAMPIRE! Jordan also deals with parents who are never there which forces her to binge-drink.

Now when you read as much vampire book as I have, you find it difficult to find something good and that is not overrated. This book was a good and easy read. Every page had some different element in it. The plot was very good and well written. Marrone does an absolute good job growing the suspense about Micheal's true intentions. She also captured Jordan's teenage voice beautifully.

Jordan self-medicates herself by binge-drinking and isolating herself. She soon discovers that she is not fighting Micheal but her feelings for him. I was hooked right to the very end! Jordan quickly realizes that she needed to grow up and deal with the Micheal problem. And she did!

This book is also dealing with your own issues. Jordan had many issues in the book and she knew it. She just didn't want to deal with it. She wanted someone else to come in and take care of it for her. She finally manage to find herself and suck it up. Go Jordan! I was happy when she finally confessed what was going on to her mother. And it was about time her mother step in to help her.

It has quick references to sexual things, and it has some illegal substances in it. It was cleaner than most books I've read.. I recommend this book for an older teenager. (16 and up)

I give it 5 BITES!
