Review: The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers

Title: The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers
Series: No
Genre: Young Adult- Fantasy
Author: Lynn Weingarten
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: December 27, 2011
Book: ARC sent by publisher

"When her boyfriend breaks up with her on the first day of sophomore year, Lucy has no idea how she’s going to make it through homeroom, let alone the rest of her life. Enter three stunning girls with a magical offer Lucy can’t refuse. All she has to do is get a guy to fall in love with her in the next seven days, and then…break his heart and collect one of his brokenhearted tears. As the girls teach Lucy how to hook a guy (with the help of a little magic), she quickly discovers how far she is willing to go—and who she is willing to cross—to get what she wants.

Fans of Lauren Myracle, Jodi Lynn Anderson, and Meg Cabot will love this tale of breakups, friendship, new crushes, and magic. Told with wit and charm, The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers is sure to be one of this winter’s most irresistible reads!"
This book definitely took my by surprise. I did not expect what I've read and was totally thrown off. I admit, that I was skeptical and felt it a bit cheesy. As I continued to read on, the plot unfolded to magic that intrigued me. I sat up straighter, diving in the book faster than I thought I would. And in the end, I smiled.

So, what got me off about this book? Well for starters, the synopsis is not what I thought. And now that I think about it, I liked that. I like that as the reader, I was thrown off. When I got deeper in the plot line, it all come to sense. The plot definitely kept the reader on their toes with every new chapters. Heart breaks, rules and magic really gave the reader something new to see.

The characters of this book had some major changing to do with the magic. At first you play be rules, then your conscious gave way. It was like they were testing you or Lucy was testing herself. I liked that Lucy is really seeing who she is. She is so insecure of who she is that she needs this adjustment. It gave her strength to do things she never do but also gave the reader hope that Lucy will make it.

Magic. I loved it. So when it came into the book, into the characters I read on. The magic factor is not witchy but not low either. The magic is used differently in a way I didn't think. Not only was the magic taught, but it was learned. In order to gain magic, you must really know it.

Overall, this book really swept me off my feet. I hadn't expected to understand it all, but indeed I did. I loved the way Ms.Weingarten surprised her readers with elements we did not see. She gave her readers a new sight to love that they never seen.

I give it 4 BITES!

Happy Reading!

Can I just say how much this book is The Bomb Diggity? I mean really, it is da bomb!  OK, first off the plot line. Man o man, was it good. I have never felt right at home when reading this book. With every turn of the page, I felt the energy flowing between my fingers as I delved into this world. Everything is at its own time and nothing is left out.

The characters of this book are right where they are supposed to be and them some. So many new changes, both good and bad, had me smiling. I love the fight they all had. All of the characters fought for what they believe in. They didn't back down or give up. They were willing to sacrifice anything to get what they wanted. There were also a few plot surprises that left me breathless. I mean, I stand amazed after reading this book and well, I'm sure after you read it, you will feel the same way.

The love interest in this book is even more enduring. The emotions, heart-ache, and selflessness is over flowing in this book. I love that Ms. De La Cruz, gave her readers a magnificent few of great descriptions of  everything. I really felt like I was in the story, traveling the world, fighting for those who I love, and most of all, fighting for myself.

If you have not read The Blue Blood series, you need to! This series goes from good to holy freaking awesomeness batman, in 5 second flat! Ms. De La Cruz amazes her readers, captivating them in her great and wonderful writing. Once you are in this world, there is no looking back. And with the surprises that Ms. De La Cruz throws at you, it is no wonder all of her readers always come back wanting more!

I give it 5 BITES!

Review: Clarity

Title: Clarity
Series: Clarity # 1
Genre: Young Adult- Supernatural
Author: Kim Harrington
Publisher: Scholastic Point
Release Date: March 1 , 2011
Book: Bought

"When you can see things others can't, where do you look for the truth?
This paranormal murder mystery will have teens reading on the edge of their seats.
Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.
And a curse.
When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case - but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother - who has supernatural gifts of his own - becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?"

As soon as I started this book I knew I was in trouble. I loved a good book filled with drama along with a good mysterious, solve the puzzle story. This book is just that.

The characters of this book Wow'ed me. I loved that not only were they well develop, but love it even more when learn and grow in front of your eyes. As the reader, I felt in-tune with the characters following them along solving the mystery of the murders. Ms. Harrington did a great job in creating a good story line as well as a great mystery. I can't tell you how much I enjoy figuring out who the killer is. It's like playing my favorite game of Clue!!

The plot line of this book had some great drama in it as well. I like that the murders revolved around the family so closely. This "special" family doesn't hide who they are but embraces it. I like the feel of the family. They are one. They trust each other. Ms. Harrington wrote a great family aspect to the book, as always being there for each other no matter what. Simply fantastic!

The love interest in this book had me excited! I love a good love triangle (as long as it is done right). The reason I enjoyed this love triangle is cause right from the beginning you learn about betrayals and the love that still stands there. I stand by Clarity and her decision. Though I can see how difficult it can be. Ms. Harrington didn't write up a love with no problems, inst-love or whatnot. She wrote about a real relationship with real problems. I adore this cause anyone can relate to it.

A wonderful work of literature, Ms Harrington's book is a book I should've picked up sooner. The book contain great elements such a suspense, a murder mystery, and a love that may or may no be over. I can't wait to read the next adventure of Clarity and her family!

I give it 5 BITES!

Blog Tour/Giveaway: The Long Weekend

I am so happy to be a part of this blog tour! I am so please to have Ms. Savita Kalhan, author of The Long Weekend. Thank you for being here today.

Hi Savannah! Thanks for inviting me here today! I’m looking forward to answering all your questions.

1. What do you think makes a good story?

There are lots of elements that make up a good story. It has to have a great story-line, a plot that makes readers want to continue reading to find out what happens at the end. It has to have characters that you can love or hate, or find interesting or creepy, basically that make you feel something, so that you care about what happens to them.

2. When and why did you begin writing?

I started writing in the mid-nineties. I was living in a country where most books were banned and my friend and I were heavily into fantasy epics. Lugging them back hidden in suitcases was hard work and worth it if the books were really good. But some of them weren’t. After reading a particularly bad series, we decided to write our own fantasy trilogy – the only thing was, I ended up writing them and my friend ended up reading them!

3. Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

One of my favourite authors is Jennifer Donnelly. I read A Gathering Light a few years ago, and at that time, I don’t think the term YA had crept into the UK, but I’ve heard people class it as the first YA book over here. I recently read Revolution by her, and loved it too. I think she writes extremely well. Her story lines are always amazing and she brings her characters to life so well no matter if they are from the present day or from a few hundred years ago. Her writing is vivid, her dialogue is sharp, and her stories are original, so easy to read, and I never want them to come to an end!

4. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

I didn’t write the book with a message in mind – I wrote the book because of a flyer that went round the local schools warning that the driver of a flashy car had tried to snatch children. A scenario came to my mind where something like that could happen with terrifyingly ease, and I just had to write the book.

There is a clear message that does come through though and that is no matter how street wise you are, be aware. Child abduction still happens. But hopefully nothing like that will ever happen to you.

5. Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

I do have first-hand knowledge of some of the terrible events that happen in the book. I’ve also heard the stories of other survivors of child abuse. So, ultimately, what I think I would like the reader to leave my book knowing is that no matter what happens in life, as long as you have the right help, in the end you can overcome the bad stuff.

Thanks so much for asking me here, Savannah.
By the way, my nickname is Sav too! Thanks for having me here, Savannah!

Review: Trance

Title: Trance
Series: No
Genre: Young Adult-Supernatural
Author: Linder Gerber
Publisher: Speak
Release Date: October 14, 2010
Book: Bought

"Ashlyn Greenfield has always known when bad things are going to happen. Each time that familiar tingling at the back of her neck begins, she knows what's to come a trance. She's pulled in, blindsided, an unwilling witness to a horrible upcoming event. But she's never been able to stop it not even when the vision was of her mother's fatal car accident. When soulful Jake enters Ashlyn's life, she begins having trances about another car accident. And as her trances escalate, one thing becomes clear; it's up to her to save Jake from near-certain death."

Trance is one book that captivated me. Ashyln's character not only seemed real but one that you can relate with right away. Ashlyn's life has been tough. After a bad car accident, her family is torn apart. Left with dealing with her powers on her own, she must overcome the guilt and fear she has in order to save someone she loves.

Ashlyn has been though so much after the accident. She tries to be strong and move on, but the guilt of the night that happen plays into her mind over and over again. She does anything and everything to get her mind off it. She is alone. I hated that she is alone. She needed someone. Even though they blamed her for the accident, Ashyln needed guidance as well. I was upset that her father didn't take more care for than what he did.

The way the love part played out with her visions was perfect. I loved how it all tied in with the car accident. That I did not see coming at all. I was totally shocked and just awed. When you read the story, you only her Ashyln's POV. After reading the ending and how it truly panned out I understood. The love between Jake and Ashyln is real and true. I like how she did not allow the car accident affect how she felt about Jake. She loved him no matter what happen. True love. It always fixes everything.

I give it 4 BITES!

Review: Girl Parts

Title: Girl Parts
Series: No
Genre: Young Adult-Science Fiction
Author: John Cusick
Publisher: Candlwick Press
Release Date: August 10, 2010
Book: Bought

"Hello, David. My name is Rose. It’s a pleasure to meet you. We are now entering minute two of our friendship. According to my Intimacy Clock, a handshake is now appropriate…"

David and Charlie are opposites. David has a million friends, online and off. Charlie is a soulful outsider, off the grid completely. But neither feels close to anybody. When David’s parents present him with a hot Companion bot to encourage healthy bonds and treat "dissociative disorder," he can’t get enough of luscious red-headed Rose — and he can’t get it soon. Companions come with strict intimacy protocols, and whenever he tries anything, David gets an electric shock. Severed from the boy she was built to love, Rose turns to Charlie, who finds he can open up, knowing Rose isn’t real. With Charlie’s help, the ideal "companion" is about to become her own best friend."

I really expected more out of this book. I had high hopes for it but it never was what I wanted. I was able to read through it quickly, but found that that the plot needed something more...

David is disagnoised with being Disassociated. With this, his doctor prescribes him not drugs but a machine to help him become more associated with the world. David sees the machine as nothing but a sex toy. All he wants to do is make out and have sex it with it. Because of this problem with teenage boys, the company removes all girl parts from the machine, thus the name of the book.

David does learn somewhat of how to establish a stable good relationship. If he tries something not good, then he is punished by electric shocks. David learns quickly that he must earn trust and establish a relationship before even trying to kiss Rose.

Charlie is also a disassociate but his father did not approve of the program. When David gets mad at Rose, Rose runs into Charlie in which he helps her.

There is so much going on in this book with the three different POV's going on. It was hard to keep up, but just to me too many story lines. Also I enjoyed Rose finally making up her own mind and doing what she needed to do. I wish I could see more from Rose POV rather than David and Charlie.

This book contains drugs, suscide, sex, and cursing. In all the book was an easy read, but nothing that I would read again.

I give it 3 BITES!

Review: Return to Paradise

Title: Return to Paradise
Series: Leaving Paradise # 2
Genre: Young Adult-Contemporary
Author: Simone Elkeles
Publisher: Flux
Release Date: September 1, 2010
Book: Bought

"Maggie and Caleb just went through the worst year of their lives. Hit by a car and starting life over with a limp, Maggie never thought she would forgive Caleb. But she did—and fell in love. What they shared was real. But Caleb wanted to be free from the past—and a terrible secret: he wasn't the one who hit Maggie. So he left Paradise—and Maggie—forever. When Maggie and Caleb run into each other in a different town, they can't deny their true feelings. Will Maggie let Caleb get away again? Or will Caleb face the truth and return to Paradise?"

Ok, I must say how much I loved this book, but also how it nerved me. Weird right? Well let me start off by saying that this book was written well, the plot was okay, the drama was major.
MAJOR TEENAGE ANGST!

Just when you think it over, it all comes came crashing right back down on you. Maggie is just trying to move on with her life when she volunteers to spread the word on wreckless driving by going to campuses, schools, etc. Little did she know Caleb is also on the trip.

This book I enjoyed because I love Maggie and Caleb and have been rooting for them since the very begining. There were some new characters added and it did get is somewhat refreshing pace. Through out the whole book there was nothing but stupid crude jokes, lots of cussing, drinking, sex, etc. What nerved me was how stupid the characters were being. Fighting over fart jokes? (Ok I admit, it made me laugh, but I am also easliy amused) fighting over bunk beds, snoring, you name it they fought over it.

What I did like about it was that well Simone did a rather great job capturing the teenage voice. I admit, that if I was teenager, and put in the same postion I act the same way. She did great putting a jokster in there as well as a queen bee and a quite person all mix in with Caleb and Maggie. I hated the Caleb did act. He acted like a jerk and at times I wanted to slap him. Maggie, I understood perfectly. She had every right to act the way she did and I would have done the same thing.

I am glad that at the end they were able to become friends and be there for each other. The ending for me was just right.

I give it 4 BITES!

Trick or Treat Spooktacular!

Here at Books with Bite, I love Halloween. Why?
Well for one, I was supposed to be born on Halloween, but I decided to come earlier :)
Reason #2, I LOVE CANDY! It is my excuse to eat as much as I want without anyone telling me anything! Reason #3, I love scary movies. Ever since Candyman scared the living daylights out of me and was unable to go to the bathroom alone for months I have been an addict to scary movies.

So without further adieu, I am going to be hosting some giveaways this month as well as showing some scary stories from where I live. Here in the valley we have some scray stuff! LOL Seriously we do. At the University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College they do ghost hunts. I will be trying to attend one this month and hope to post my adventure online!

So here is my first story. The Legend of  The La Llorona.......

"The Legend La Llorona is New Mexico's most famous legend, and the state's
most famous ghost. It is centered along the Rio Grande south to
Juarez, Mexico. There is scarcely a child in New Mexico that has
not been told the story of La Llorona as a youngster.
Though there are many variations, the legend goes something like this:

In the early 1700s, there was a young woman named Maria living
in Juarez, Mexico. As Maria blossomed into a young woman, her
striking beauty attracted the charms of many local men. Coming
from a poor family, her mother encouraged her to marry one of
these dashing young men for a good life. However, Maria refused,
stating her beauty would one day attract the charms of a very rich man.

Before long, the handsome young man of her dreams rode into
town. He was the son of a well known wealthy ranchero west of
Juarez. He wore nice clothes and had a handsome, well groomed
horse with a fancy saddle – all the signs of a man of wealth.
Maria would follow him around, trying to catch his eye, but he
seemed to only notice the young women who were fairly “well to
do.” At night, he would charm the local ladies with his guitar and golden voice, breaking Maria's heart.

One day, the young ranchero came into the tienda where Maria was
shopping. She blushed from embarrassment, as she was wearing
an old dirty, tattered dress. However, the blushing beauty suddenly
caught the eye of the young ranchero. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

After a short courtship, the ranchero paid her father a large dowry
and they were soon married, in spite of the objections of the
rancheros father. After all, it was frowned upon for a wealthy man
to marry a woman from a lower class.

After their marriage, they moved to Mesilla, where it is said he
worked his own ranch and worked as a merchant along El Camino
Real. Other say he moved to Mesilla to avoid the scorn of his father
for marrying a woman from such a poor family. Regardless, over
the following years, Maria bore him three children.

As the years went by, Maria and her wealthy husband grew apart.
He was often gone for months at a time on the ranch, or shipping
goods along the Camino Real. He developed little interest in Maria
or the children. Maria suspected he was frequenting the company of other women during his travels.

One day Maria was walking along the street with her three children
when her husband's buggy approached. Sitting close was another
woman – a beautiful young woman. He passed her and the
children, pretending not to notice them. Maria's heart was wrenched in two.

Her anger exploded into a jealous rage. If only she didn't have the
children, she thought, then her husband would love her again. In
her rage, she dragged her three children to the Rio Grande and held
their heads under the water until they were dead. Maria had
committed the ultimate sin – deliberately killing her own children.

Returning home later that night, she explained to her husband what
she had done to please him. He was horrified and ordered her out of
his life. It is said Maria roamed the streets of Mesilla for many
nights, calling and crying for her children, earning her the name La Llorona – the wailing woman.

Realizing she had lost everything in life, she went down to the river
and cried for her children one last time. When there was no answer,
she drove a dagger deep into her chest, falling dead into the Rio Grande.

The people of Mesilla, finding her body, buried her in the town
cemetery. It is said, even today, La Llorona can be seen roaming
the cemetery and the river, crying for her children, giving the
Mesilla cemetery the reputation for being haunted."

Review: The Candidates

Title: The Candidates
Series: Delcroix Academy # 1
Genre: Young Adult-Fantasy
Author: Inara Scott
Publisher: Hyperion
Release Date: August 24, 2010
Book: ARC recieved from Joni at Paragraph Books

"Dancia Lewis is far from popular. And that's not just because of her average grades or her less-than-glamorous wardrobe. In fact, Dancia's mediocrity is a welcome cover for her secret: whenever she sees a person threatening someone she cares about, things just...happen. Cars skid. Structures collapse. Usually someone gets hurt. So Dancia does everything possible to avoid getting close to anyone, belieiving this way she can supress her powers and keep them hidden.

But when recruiters from the prestigious Delcroix Academy show up in her living room to offer her a full scholarship, Dancia's days of living under the radar may be over. Only, Delcroix is a school for diplomats' kids and child geniuses--not B students with uncontrollable telekinetic tendencies. So why are they treating Dancia like she's special? Even the hottest guy on campus seems to be going out of his way to make Dancia feel welcome.

And then there's her mysterious new friend Jack, who can't stay out of trouble. He suspects something dangerous is going on at the Academy and wants Dancia to help him figure out what. But Dancia isn't convinced. She hopes that maybe the recruiters know more about her "gift" than they're letting on. Maybe they can help her understand how to use it...But not even Dancia could have imagined what awaits her behind the gates of Delcroix Academy."

WOW! This book has just amazed me. From the very beginning it was mysterious, keeping all the secrets, from me demanding me to read on to discover the truth. At first, when I started this book I was a little skeptical. I kept thinking that maybe I might get bored with it, but it soon proved me wrong.

Dancia is scared. Scared for her life as well as others. Always living under the radar, never doing anything to draw attention to herself, she finds it impossible that she has gotten a full ride into the Delcroix Academy. There she finds friends, love and most importantly herself. I love Dancia. Her character was one I admired right away for her selflessness. She always thought of others before herself, and always thought of different ways to do things.

The love interest in this book was maddening! I mean, two great completely cute boys and even I couldn't decide who to side with. Jack or Cam? Jack or Cam? The attraction she held with both of them was great. The drama, plot and the way the whole story paned out was perfect.  The ending for me was just right. With all the went on, it was a good touch.

Now for the secret. It was not at all what I was expecting although I was kind of right. The paranormal touch to it was one I seen before, so I wasn't as impressed. But the writing of the book, kept me well in the dark and always looking for more. I  am definitely looking forward to read the next book.

I give it 5 BITES!

Review: Dead Beautiful

Title: Dead Beautiful
Series: Dead Beautiful # 1
Genre: Young Adult-Paranormal/Fantasy
Author: Yvonne Woon
Publisher: Hyperion
Release Date: September 21, 2010
Book: Received from Joni at Paragraphs books

"After Renee Winters discovers her parents lying dead in California’s Redwood Forest in what appears to be a strange double murder, her grandfather sends her off to Gottfried Academy in Maine, a remote and mysterious high school dedicated to philosophy, “crude sciences,” and Latin: the Language of the Dead. It’s here she meets Dante, a dark and elusive student to whom she feels inexplicably drawn.

As they get to know each other better, Dante can’t seem to control his attraction either, and their desires gradually deepen into a complex and dangerous romance. Dangerous because Dante is hiding a frightening secret. A secret so terrible, it has him fearing for Renee’s life.

Dante’s not the only one with secrets, though. Turns out Gottfried Academy has a few of its own... Like, how come students keep disappearing? Why are the prefect-like Monitors creeping around campus during the night? And what exactly are the Headmistress and Professors really up to? Renee is determined to find out why."

Ok, what a great and intriguing read. And the twist! I certainly did not see that coming. Beautiful Dead is a great read. Everything in it was perfect.

So as I started to read this book, I was thrown into a whirlwind of surprises. Poor Renee, always going through some many unexpected tragic things. I felt sorry for her, but was glad that she prevailed.

Renee arrived at this new school and her rebellious attitude has me giddy from the start. I immensely enjoyed her smart mouth, know it all attitude. It brought so much more drama  and excitement to the book. And who doesn't enjoy a rebellious teen.

Now the love interest in the story was one so unique and detailed to beautifully. I love how Ms. Woon was able to tie it all together. I never saw that ending coming but WOW! She got me good. And what I loved the most about it was that is was unique. It was nothing that I've read before and it all totally fit.

Ms. Woon certainly wrote a book that completely caught me off guard. I was certain it was about one thing, but she managed to keep the suspense in the book so high, that I had no other choice but to continue to read until I finally saw the truth. And the truth was Dead Beautiful.

I give it 5 BITES!

Just Release It Already! (9)

This is my weekly meme in a book I CAN NOT wait for!

The Locket by Stacy Jay
Release Date: Febuary 2011

"What if you got a second chance to fix your worst mistake?

What if you found out miracles could happen?

What if you found out that sometimes, miracles are curses in disguise...

One girl, two boys, and one very scary piece of jewelry."

I love the synopsis on this book, getting a chance to change anything at all. A chance to do it all over again differently. If I had to chance to change things, I'm sure what I would change but it will definitely be a chance in a lifetime. I do wonder often what my life would be like if I took a different route. What would I look like? Where would I be? Would I be happy? So with that said, this book has definitely caught my eye and interest. I love that involves boys, love, choices, and of course a very pretty piece of jewelry.

So seriously??? Just release it already!!!

Happy Reading!

Reading On The Dark Side

This book was interesting and hilarious. I love how it was written, from a male point of view, which you don't see much. Also it was written by a male author.

I knew from the moment I layed eyes on this book that I would enjoy it immensely and that I did. Right from the beginning, you were thrown into this geeky, fat boys world of trying to make it as a fat vampire. I felt for him during his hardships. He struggle in feeding, as well in other areas.

I was glad to see he go help through a mentor. Through this he was able to learn more and of course become a better vampire. He also took a chance and finally step up to the plate, becoming the true vampire that he his. But in doing this, his ego went straight to his head and all of the sudden he was "BAD" He end up getting a girlfriend and used her badly. I was disappointed in his choice. While I was glad that he finally came who he was, he made a poor choice in it as well.

In the end, Doug hardships paid off. He went off the find he friends attacker, dubbing him my knight and shining armor. I admit that the ending was a little confusing for me. I'm still not sure what to make of it.

Mr. Rex, did a great job writing this. The plot, drama and suspense was written perfect. I enjoyed reading each and every page of it. Mr. Rex did a great job capturing the voice of a real teenage boy. I was happy as a reader to get a good insight on the character. Doug was not your typical teenage boy and for that I was grateful to see someone who was not popular, or cute from the start.

I give it 5 BITES!

In the beginning it was slow. At first I almost gave up in the book, then I hit chapter four, thats when things really started to get interesting. It certainly did pick up when Weed, started to do strange things. I was very intrigued from the start.

Now, this book was written well, and the plot, drama was great. In the end, it had some very unexpected surprises and I really need to know what happens next.....like NOW!

The Poison Diaries is what it is, poison. It seeps into you forcing you to finish the book no matter what. It was definitely a must read. I also like the fact how everything was well put together. The characters were great as well as the time period. I love to read books that are old fashioned talk. There is just something sexy about it.

Also, it may be a little hard to read if you don't like reading book that are in the past, and it did take a little time to get to the good part.

All in all, this was a very great, intriguing read. I often wondered a lot about plants, and I now know more now, then what I knew then. The paranormal element in this book is good. It is something different and unique.

I give it 4 BITES!

Review: Braced to Bite

Title: Braced to Bite
Series: Half-Blood Vampires # 1
Genre: Young Adult-Paranormal
Author: Serena Robar
Publisher: Pequin Group
Release Date: June 1, 2010
Book: Bought

"Colby Blanchard is the popular cheerleader with the grades, the hunky boyfriend, and the homecoming crown in the bag. Then things go bad-like turning-into-a-vampire bad. And complicating things is the fact that her orthodontist father has removed her canine teeth to give her a perfect smile, so she can't even do the vampire thing properly. Luckily, he's fitting her with some new headgear so she can feed. (So now she's not just a vampire but a dork.) This lighthearted debut will have Buffy fans of all ages laughing and shuddering as Colby battles the Vampire Council, resists her attraction to a fellow vamp, and hunts down the rogue bloodsucker who got her in this mess in the first place-all while trying to snag a date for homecoming."

There is something about cheerleaders crossing over to the dark side that just gets me. This book was exciting! I loved reading about Colby and loved her attitude. She acted just as I thought she would and I enjoyed every minute of it.

The one thing about this book was that is was a fun, easy, quick, read. The plot and drama was good and nothing was overrated. Her maker I was definitely interested in. He was very intriguing. Also, I like how Colby was feeling attracted to the vamp counsel dude. Totaly ironic that she fall for a guy who is way out of her league.

Now on the other hand, I felt this book needed more. Although it was fun and easy, I would like to read more into the story and learn more abou the vampires. I did however buy the second book, and will read that one soon to see what more is in store.

If you like an over achiever cheerleader going vamp with all the drama read this. Its was fun and witty read and will satisfy your vamp side.

I give it 4 BITES!

Review: Beautiful Malice

Title: Beautiful Malice

Author: Rebecca James

Book: ARC received by Joni at Paragraphs Books

"So. Were you glad, deep down? Were you glad to be rid of her? Your perfect sister? Were you secretly glad when she was killed?

And when Katherine starts to wonder if Alice is really the kind of person she wants as a friend, she discovers something else about Alice - she doesn’t like being cast off."

This book is a real eye opener. From the very first line, I was hooked and drawn into this dark world. This book is so messed up. I kept getting angry and upset reading this book. but of course, all of this in a good way. Reading this book made me see how ugly the world can be at times. That there are people out there that are cruel and cold and would do anything for their own game, using anyone and anything.

This book is written perfectly. I was amazed over and over again reading all the things that happen to Katherine. I am amazed that after all that she went through, she is still a good person. I would imagine anyone else who went through that would just be bitter and angry, but not her. She made the best of what she had.

I was glad that the end of the book was ended on a good note of hope and love. At first I thought it would end leaving me hanging, but if left me satisfied. Ms. James wrote a dark, angst, suspenseful book full of turns, emotions and a lot of unexpected surprises. This book is so good, I read it quickly. This book also contains cursing, sexual activities, and lots of backstabbing!

If you want to read a dark, angst, book that can definitely happen in real life, read this. You will not be disappointed.

I give it 5 BITES!

Review: Nevermore

Title: Nevermore
Series: Nevermore # 1
Genre: Young Adult-Fantasy
Author: Kelly Creagh
Publisher: Atheneum
Release Date: August 31, 2010
Book: Bought

"Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

His life depends on it."

My. God. I have never read anything so enticing, so delicious that I just want to sit down and re-read it over and over again. From the very first page I was hooked on Varen. I fell for him hard. When Isobel started protecting him, I felt protective. He was one character that Ms. Kelly hit right on. She describe and wrote him so well, that for a moment, I knew this guy was real. That there was no way someone could write about Varen and have no one who inspired him.

This book was so dark and intense. Even so, I was smiling all day long while I read this book. I don't think I ever done that. I know that my face shows a lot of emotions while I read a book and to know that my co-workers asked,"That must be a good book if your smiling like that." Indeed it was.

Mr. Creagh, you have "WOW"ed me,... So intensely that I desperately would like to meet Varen and look into his dark, tense eyes and would like to know his life.  I love everything about Isobel as well. I found that her character was not only inspiring but redeeming. I like how well Isobel characters showed all of her emotions. Nothing hiding but all laid for all to see.

If you like dark, angst book with a real life love that goes beyond death, you should read this. I loved this book and can not wait to see what Ms. Creagh writes next!

I give it 5 BITES!
