Giveaway: HON Destined

Hello everyone! I have a great giveaway for you!

"Breathing hard, Aurox stood there over the bodies of his vanquished enemies. He turned to Neferet.

"Very good," she said in her emotionless voice. "Let us leave this place before the authorities descend."

Aurox followed her. He walked heavily, his hooves gouging furrows in the dirty alley.

Weak. He felt weak. And more. There was something else.

"What is it?" She snapped at him when he hesitated before entering the car again.

"I do not know. I feel--"

She laughed. "You don't feel at all. You're obviously overthinking this."

"Yes, Priestess." Aurox got in the car and let the world speed past him.
I do not think. I do not feel. I am a weapon.

Zoey is finally home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side, and preparing to face off against Neferet -- which would be a whole lot easier if the High Council saw the ex-High Priestess for what she really is. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, Rephaim and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together -- if he can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow.

But there are new forces at work at the House of Night. An influx of humans, including Lenobia's handsome horse whisperer, threatens their precarious stability. And then there's the mysterious Aurox, a jaw-droppingly gorgeous teen boy who is actually more -- or possibly less -- than human. Only Neferet knows he was created to be her greatest weapon. But Zoey can sense the part of his soul that remains human, the compassion that wars with his Dark calling. And there's something strangely familiar about him . . .

Will Neferet's true nature be revealed before she succeeds at extinguishing Light? And will Zoey be able to touch Aurox's humanity in time to protect them all? Find out what's destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series."

Review: Tempted

Title: Tempted
Series: House of Night #6
Genre: Young Adult- Paranormal
Author: P.C. Cast/Kristin Cast
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: October 7, 2010
Book: Bought

"So…you’d think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark’s life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions. Speaking of stress, the dark force lurking in the tunnels under the Tulsa Depot is spreading, and Zoey is beginning to believe Stevie Rae could be responsible for a lot more than a group of misfit red fledglings. Aphrodite’s visions warn Zoey to stay away from Kalona and his dark allure, but they also show that it is Zoey who has the power to stop the evil immortal. Soon it becomes obvious that Zoey has no choice: if she doesn’t go to Kalona he will exact a fiery vengeance on those closest to her. Will Zoey have the courage to chance losing her life, her heart, and her soul? Find out in the next spectacular installment in the House of Night series, TEMPTED. "

Alright Zoey, I feel like you are not listening here. In the next installment, Zoey is simply frustrated. This books revolves around all the problems between all the guys she has messed with. Seriously Zoey, you wouldn't have these problem if you would have just chosen one guy and stuck with it. But alas no, Zoey once again is caught up in a triangle that causes someone's death. I was so sad about this. I really like his character. He loved Zoey no matter what she did and stood by her always. He was one I was truly hoping would get a happy ending. But nooooo, he died. He put his life on the line for Zoey and she better appreciate it!

I know I made my dislike for Zoe clearly, so why do I continue to read this series? It is like a trashy novella you can't seem to get enough. Even though I hate the writing and the characters are crap, I do enjoy the plot twist that come my way. I want to know what mess Zoey gets into now. I want to see if her friends will finally see who she truly is and leave her in the gutter! Like I said, a novella I can't seem to get enough.

I do not recommend for teenagers. This book still contains everything bad. Sex, drugs, gays, etc. I think it should be pulled off the YA shelf and put in the adult section.

I give it 3 BITES!

"What if the hottest guy in the world was hiding a nameless evil, and all he wanted was you? At the start of this heart-pounding new installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey’s friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren’t Neferet’s secrets any longer. But an unexpected danger has emerged. Neferet guards her powerful new consort, Kalona, and no one at the House of Night seems to understand the threat he poses. Kalona looks gorgeous, and he has the House of Night under his spell. A past life holds the key to breaking his rapidly spreading influence, but what if this past life shows Zoey secrets she doesn’t want to hear and truths she can’t face?"

Good Grief. This is the same as before. Zoey falling for another guy, only this time, he's evil. I may not be in my teens anymore but seriously? I had high hopes for this book. I hoped that maybe Zoey would finally see sense and do something right. But no. Zoey is back with her friends and they are still fighting. There is still the Erik-Heath-Zoey love triangle. I mean you think with all the stuff Zoey did, these guys would be tired of it and leave her.

This book is written terribly, with all the pop culture references and stupid sayings. I don't think I ever talked that dumb as a teenager. Then there is still all the backtracking. This book again, I do not recommend for teenagers. Other character's drop the f-bomb alot, and of course all the drugs, gays, etc. This series is disturbing, I only hope the characters develop into something and make something of themselves.

I give it 3  BITES!

Review: Untamed

Title: Untamed
Series: House of Night #4
Genre: Young Adult- Paranormal
Author: P.C. Cast/Kristin Cast
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: September 23, 2008

"Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, of the two Zoey has left, one is undead and one is unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong. But will anyone listen to her? Zoey's adventures at vampyre finishing school take a wld and dangerous turn as loyalties are tested, shocking true intentions come to light, and an ancient evil is awakened."

I can honestly say that even though the series has good plots and drama, I am getting sick and tired or the repetitiveness of this series. *Sigh* I don't know....maybe I am reading too much into this, but this book is just as the same as the others. All of Zoey friends are upset at her and now she is trying to set things right with them. And of course she is still confused over all the guys she made out with. Erik is totally giving her the cold shoulder and you know what? She deserves it. I do not feel sorry for her in the least. She seriously needs to get her act together and make some good decisions without her hurting her friends, who were there for her.

At the beginning of the series, Zoey was untouched. By that I mean, she still had her innocence. Let me clarify some more. Zoey was not mean, anger or bitter. She was polite, kind, and did not curse. Now by this book, Zoey is not the same Zoey. While I understand her character grew some, her character grew into someone I do not like. Zoey goes around always frustrated, angry, calling people names, etc. I just don't see Zoey being that way. I would like to see  Zoey come into her destiny without all that hurt and pain she is carrying.

This book still contain sex, drugs, foul language and was a bit darker than before. I do not recommend this book for any young reader.

I  give it 3 BITES!

Title: Chosen
Series: House of Night #3

"Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare situation of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn't get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely affects the truth..."

Now that we get further into the series, I have to say I am really concern with the choices that Zoey is making. I understand that she is teenager going threw some stuff, but seriously .Zoey, is supposed to be the leading role model. And now she is nothing but a deviant. At this point I am all for Erik. He is a great guy and I can't understand why Zoey can't see that. Instead she goes with some other vampire and has to ruin everything!

This book was the same as before. It has sex, drugs, violence, etc. So NOT for a teenager. The book was fast paced and has good plot. As far as the characters developing, they seem not to be. They are all frozen acting the same way, making the same mistakes. You think that they would learn. I really wish someone would grow up and make some good choices here.

I  give it 3 BITES!

Review: Betrayed

Title: Betrayed
Series: House of Night #2
Genre: Young Adult- Paranormal
Author: P.C. Cast/Kristin Cast
Publisher: St. Martin Griffin
Release Date: October 2, 2007
Book: Bought
This is the second book in the House of Night series.

"Zoey has managed to settle in at the House of Night and come to terms with the vast powers the Goddess Nyx has given her. Just as she finally feels she belongs, the unthinkable happens: human teenagers are being killed, and all evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves."

While this still is a somewhat enjoyable read, this book picks up where it left off. Zoey after struggling to get to the top is now trying to find her place. Just like the first book, there are many references to every teenage problem. Only this time, the girls in the book casually throw around and call each other 'sluts', etc all the time. It's every other word in the book. Seriously! While Zoey's character maintained to be a good role model in the first book, in this one she is not only confused with one boy, but three different guys! I'm not saying it's not okay to be confused, but when you go around kissing one guy after another....yeah thats not right, plus it just get repetitive and boring. Pick a guy already...sheesh!

Betrayed was really exciting. It had plot twist after plot twist. I never thought the person who betrayed Zoey was that person. Nevertheless, I find that the House of Night series, has been, how can I say this, has subliminal messages in them. Like when a parents try to sneak a sex talk in with their children. In these books, there are all kinds of references on why not to drink, not to smoke, etc. Yet they let the girls in the books walk around like its okay to call each other degrading names.

Also too much references from Marked. It's like the authors are trying to catch you up if you did not pick up book #1. It had a lot of information I felt was not needed.

Overall this book was fast-paced. I read it in less then a day. Again I do not recommend for young readers. It still does carry a lot of sex, drugs, and foul language.

I give it 3 BITES!

Happy Reading!

Review: Marked

Title: Marked
Series: House of Night #1
Genre: Young Adult- Paranormal
Author: P.C. Cast/ Kristen Cast
Publisher: St. Martin Griffin
Release Date: May 1, 2007

This is another popular vampire series out there. Unlike Twilight, this series is based on a school called House of Night, on which those who are marked go to.

"After she is Marked, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny— with a little help from her new vampyre friends."

This book is appealing to those who like the Twilight series. It has everything that a teenager deals with in it. From sex, to homosexuality to foul language to pagan rituals, (which I could do without). Zoey gets marked, and then is forced to leave by her parents to this school. They completely abandon her because she is marked. The only one who stood by her side was Grandma Redbird, who's character I find adoring. Even when all things go bad, this grandma stands tall, helping her granddaughter along the way. There is alot of pop culture references in this books that seems likethe authors are trying too hard to get readers to like the book. While this book was written in good form and captured the teenage voices, I am a little concerned with young readers reading this. I am a mother, and I would not allow my teenage son to read this. (Thank God, he is still a baby) I don't think most parents are aware of what their children are reading. If I found this on a YA shelf, I'm pretty sure some other teenybopper chic will come by, see it and of course beg his/her parents to read it. And of course they will make a reference like," it's just like twilight." when in fact it is not.

The mother/daughter team did a well rounded job on the plot and developing of the story. It did keep me entertained. There was lots of drama, fights, even the leading lady Zoe coming into her destiny. For those who like vampire stories, this is a good book. For young readers, no.

I give it 3 BITES!
